What You Can Learn from Clint Eastwood in Public Speaking

Actors wow us, amaze us, and inspire us but one, in particular, displays a level of confidence that I would wish for all in public speaking.  The actor I am referring to is Clint Eastwood.  In all the roles he plays, he never doubts himself.  It is that level of belief in yourself and your abilities which you need in order to wow, amaze, and inspire your audience. 

Fear of failure, fear of looking foolish, or fear of forgetting your material are the 3 main reasons many people approach the lectern with such trepidation.  With that fear comes a lack of confidence that is formidable.  Having little or no confidence in your abilities is the 1st step towards disaster.

With all the advice I give in public speaking, one of the most important things I stress is to believe in yourself.  If you don’t believe in your abilities to deliver a successful presentation, why should anyone else?

Building that confidence, however, takes work.  

1.  You must know your material inside and out which means you must practice it out loud;

2.  You must learn to breathe with the support of your diaphragm, the best means of controlling nervousness in any form of public speaking;

3.  You must talk to your audience and not at them just as if you were holding a conversation in your living room; and,

4.  You must speak from your heart.  Use your head; but learn to speak with color, with life, with emotion.

If you can accomplish these 4 requirements, you will sound more confident, you will look more confident and you will feel more confident.  It is this confidence that will ‘allow’ you to believe in yourself.  Not that you are going to give a perfect presentation, but, rather that you will deliver an excellent presentation.  Perfection does not allow for mistakes; excellence does.

Bear in mind that everyone in the business, be it public speaking, acting, broadcasting, etc., makes occasional mistakes.  It is unavoidable in a live venue.  But they do not dwell on the error.  Instead, they fix it (if possible) and move on.  [If you are looking for perfection in your delivery skills, then you will lose the battle – do not seek something that is unattainable.  Perfection in any live performance is subjective.]  

The next time you are scheduled to address an audience, approach the lectern knowing that you will do the best job that you can and then do it.  Go ahead – make their day!

The Bible affirms the Faith in the Son of God by saying who is overcoming the world? It is only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.  The Noble Quran says that it is an unforgivable sin when you say or believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or sons; this major sin will lead to the Eternal Fire in the Hereafter.

The Sons of the Lord God in the Quran (16)

 

The Noble Quran makes the topic of the sons of God very clear and says that Allah, the Almighty Creator, has neither a son nor a partner.

In addition, The Quran makes the signs that Jesus was not god very understandable.

The Quran says that Allah will say unto Jesus at the Resurrection in rebuke of his followers: ‘O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to mankind in the life of this world, “Take me and my mother as gods, besides Allah”?’

Jesus will say unto Allah: ‘Glory be to You!, exalted be You above all that does not befit You, such as having a partner and so on. It is not mine; it is unjustified for me, to say what I have no right to.

It is not befitting for the Majesty of Allah to take to Himself a son.

Allah is exalted, magnified; He is above what they associate with Him of son or partners.  Allah is far transcendent above all that they ascribe unto Him!

In Islam, this point is very important faith wise.

1. Again, it is unforgivable sin to say or to believe that the One Almighty Creator [who is Allah or God or the Lord or Jehovah or whatever name(s) you are giving Him] has a son or Sons.

From the Islamic point of view, the conclusion of this fundamental topic that may establish or destroy the faith is that:

Any one who believe that the Almighty Creator has a son or Sons; he messes up his faith and is considered as a disbeliever and in the afterlife he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Hell.

Any one who believes that the Almighty Creator has no son or partner, he has a good faith and is considered as a believer; and in the afterlife, he will end up as an eternal inhabitant of the Eternal Paradise. 

Verses 5:116-119 make the topic of the son(s) of God plain, clear and understandable.

(Jesus continues) If you chastise them, that is, those among them who are fixed upon disbelief, verily they are Your slaves, and You are their Master, disposing of them as You will: there can be no objection to what You do; and if You forgive them, lo! they are Your slaves. You, only You, are the Mighty in His affair and the Wise in His actions.

 

The meanings of verse 5:119

1. This is a day in which their truthfulness profited the Truthful, and their faith the believers and their conveyance the conveyors of messages and their loyalty the loyal people; for theirs are Gardens underneath which, beneath its trees and couches, rivers of water, milk, wine and honey which flow wherein they are secure and they shall abide forever; in such Paradise they dwell, never to die or be removed from it.

Allah is well-pleased with them, because of their faith, works and obedience to Him, and they are well-pleased with Him, because of His reward and the honor bestowed upon them.  That which I have mentioned of eternity and pleasure is the great triumph; the ultimate safety: they earned Paradise and were saved from the torment of hell.   The sincerity of those who were liars in this world shall not avail them on that Day, just as it shall not avail the disbelievers when they (will) believe upon seeing the chastisement.

SHAKIR: Allah will say: this is the day when their truth shall benefit the truthful ones; they shall have gardens beneath which rivers flow to abide in them for ever: Allah is well pleased with them and they are well pleased with Allah; this is the mighty achievement

PICKTHAL: Allah saith: this is a day in which their truthfulness profiteth the truthful, for theirs are gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they are secure for ever, Allah taking pleasure in them and they in him. that is the great triumph.

YUSUFALI: Allah will say: “this is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal home: Allah well-pleased with them, and they with Allah: that is the great salvation, (the fulfillment of all desires).

How to overcome your fear of Public Speaking in minutes

“According to most studies, people’s number one fear is public speaking. Number two is death. Death is number two. Does that sound right? This means to the average person, if you go to a funeral, you’re better off in the casket than doing the eulogy.”

This morning I had a friend call up asking for help with his Best Man Speech, I told him, “Let me help you overcome this fear, because I don’t want you to embarrass me at my wedding.” Of course it was all tongue in cheek.

The reality is, that he is far from alone in this fear. In fact it’s the world’s number one Phobia, second to death. People would rather die than speak in public!!! My clients always comment on how funny that is, but for those suffering, the dilemma is very real. Individuals with the fear of public speaking tend to say to themselves:

“What if people judge me or reject me? What if I forget what to say? What happens if I panic? What if the audience knows more than I do about the subject? What if I blush?”

A social phobia is a learned response. It is a process that you have to go through in order to feel the thing you call anxiety. The process itself is quite simple. My last two clients I treated were petrified to speak in front of an audience. They both had extremely high levels of anxiety when they had to speak to people in social or business situations. Those limitations no longer exist in them.

How could this be?

When a person breaks their arm and has to go to the hospital. Nurses and Doctors don’t just stand around to analyze how the person broke there arm, they just put it in a cast and let the person leave. Instead of dwelling on the past and analyzing how and why they are afraid to speak in front of an audience I help them change their thought pattern. I find it cruel to drag people through all those times they felt bad just to analyze how and when there issues began to arise.

Instead, I do something different. I always explain that whatever they were doing is irrelevant.

My explanation replaces their phobia with a clear positive image of how they want to come across when delivering their speech. By the end of my session they are actually excited about giving their speech and deliver very well.

Methods of Conquering Public Speaking Fear

There are so many folks who have issues with talking to an audience. They are simply just afraid of looking like a fool in front of folks. They will overcome public speaking fear by trying to be thoroughly prepared with a positive attitude.

If you can work on the way that you are feeling, you are going to be able to work on the way that you see yourself and you can notice that your fear will not be so bad. However, there are some folks who are so terrified of being judged that they will literally become ill. There are so many folks who will get dizzy or sick. They may even faint from the pressure to perform. There are some people who will start to stutter or speak too quickly. Occasionally when they start talking and then there heart will start to beat so fast that they may quiver. Although you will find yourself relaxing down after awhile, you can end up wasting 1/2 the speech making an attempt to get over your fear.

You know that you’ve a lot of work before you. You’ll find that if you take the time to get the speech prepared, you’ll feel a lot better when it comes to giving the speech. When you have investigated the whole topic, you may wish to write and outline of your speech. This could help you when it comes to writing the speech word for word , however , if you do not have to learn, then you shouldn’t.

Once the speech is written you will want to prepare the way that you give the speech. When it comes to practicing your speech you will pick out some of the things that work and do not work. Ensure that you pick your speech apart when it comes to the practice rounds. When you have gotten the viewpoints of others and made your own opinion, you will find that you can critique the actually speech and it’ll be perfect in the final analysis.

Once the speech is prepared to be given you may wish to begin to practice, but by listening to yourself. You wish to watch your voice. It must be loud and clear ( not dodgy ). Ensure that you are pronouncing what you mean and meaning what you are saying. Your body language and your speech have to go together.

It is crucial that you do not leave anything to chance. You need to make sure that you prepare yourself for everything.

Why don’t you learn to overcome public speaking fear, instead of get over it each time? You will want to make sure that you go into the speech properly prepared. You are going to have to consider the way that you deliver the speech and what kind of time it takes you to supply it. When you go into the room knowing that your speech is only twelve minutes and 34 seconds, the time will appear so much less than what it really is. Ensure that you are prepared for each possible question and even for your fears. You will find that when you are prepared for anything, you may feel a lot better.

Do Your Presentation Skills Pass the Color Test?

Speaking with expression, emotion, life, animation – whatever you call it – is one of your most important characteristics in delivering a dynamic presentation or speech.  Just how colorful are you at the lectern?

If you would like to test your ‘color’ skills, record yourself reading the following nonsense paragraph and then play it back.  (It might be an idea to practice it out loud before recording it.)

Bill Williams willed wills and billed bills to Williams and Bills.

A most willing Williams enjoyed willing and billing, billing bills for the wills of Williams and Bills.

The willing question is whether Bill Williams willed for his bills or billed for the wills of Williams and Bills.

Now Williams may say he billed for the wills; however, Williams and Bills will that Bill Williams willed his bills on Williams and Bills.

The answer is that Bill Williams didn’t will Williams and Bills bills, but billed Williams and Bills for their wills.

When you played this recording back, did your voice sound interesting or did you sound like you were ‘spitting’ out words that all sounded alike?  While all of those words do sound similar, if read well, those words actually will not sound the same because your treatment of those words will make them sound different.  In other words, the paragraph will make sense.

So how do you read it with color? 

1.  If you read this well, you will sound like you are reading something that makes sense.

2.  Be expressive on words like but, however, billed and wllled, drawing out the word or using some emphasis here and there.  

If you can read that paragraph and make it sound intelligent, delivering a presentation with color will be that much easier.  Remember, no matter how good your voice or your script, your speech or your material, without color, you are boring.

 Allow for your emotion, your life, your animation in public speaking and your audience will thank you.

Public Speaking: Use Your Head But Speak from Your Heart

While you can’t go very far in public speaking if you do not know your material well – and that means inside and out – what will capture your audience is your delivery. A colorful, dynamic delivery determines whether your audience will pay attention to you or not. That is not to say that your words, your actual material, are not important. They are. Many people are aware that a dynamic delivery sells. My question for you, however, is whether you should speak from head or from your heart?

In order for people to listen to you, to learn from you and possibly to buy from you, you need to speak to them with the words in your heart and not with the words in your head. Your words are only the vehicle; what comes from your heart is the power for those words.

Speaking from your heart means honesty because if it coming from that area which distinguishes right from wrong, then it must be true. Speaking from your head does not require honesty and usually says little about you as the speaker. When you speak from your head, you will say what you think the audience wants to hear. While that may be good for your business in the short run, it is a poor investment in the long run.

By keeping your delivery conversational, your heart will speak from the knowledge that is in your head. Your audience will value your openness and a personal connection will develop. Just as in good article writing, including anecdotes and true stories relevant to your topic in your presentation, will help solidify that connection.

Your audience must believe that you care about them. If you are speaking from your head, that message is not coming through.

It is important to understand that no matter what your service or your product, it will not be right for everyone. Knowing your limitations in that respect will be better for your business because as you become more established in public speaking, more invitations will result due to referrals. Word will spread. A delivery intended just to sell product is not the image you want to project. Speaking from your heart will establish the honesty, the credibility and the accountability that will further your success in your field.

Use the material in your head but speak from your heart.

Through the years, I have been amazed at how many people are totally unaware that they have a richer, warmer, resonant, and even sexier speaking voice inside. Most people believe that the voice they are using out of habit is something they cannot change. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Unless you are already powering your voice from your chest cavity, you do have a better voice inside. There are some changes on the ‘before’ and ‘after’ video clips of my clients that are so dramatic you might think it was two different people speaking. The fact that it is on video however is the proof that indeed they are one and the same.

So how do get rid of your habitual voice and discover your ‘real’ one?

1. Learn to breathe with the support of your diaphragm so that you can use your chest to do your talking thereby eliminating the wear and tear on your vocal folds (cords). If you suffer any form of vocal abuse, it will not go away on its own until you change this placement of your voice. Constant abuse will only get worse over time. Power your voice from your chest and you will be amazed at the difference in the immediate elimination of the soreness or pain you often feel after speaking in a loud volume of sound or just speaking for great lengths of time.

2. Discover the optimum pitch of your speaking voice. Individual to you, your optimum pitch will probably be lower than your habitual pitch which will make your voice sound more mature – not too old, not too young – ageless. In addition, you will find your voice continually improving with age.

Then, take the above 2 techniques and make them a habit so you don’t have to think about it anymore. You will sound better; you will probably look better; and, you most definitely feel better about yourself.

You cannot imagine all the differences you will discover in your life, both professionally and personally, just by allowing your chest to do your talking. It’s a marvelous feeling, the best means of controlling nervousness in any form of public speaking, and you will finally enjoy hearing yourself on your voicemail!

The key to goodSEO is to use keywordsthatwilleventually;turnintomoney, but it might takea year.Sorry, yes, it might takea yearand thenyou’ll start rakingit in, but if you thinkyou can takesomequick short-cuts, feel free. Googlemight not likeit and if Googledon’t likeit, well, it'sgoo&#100b;ye;.

So, buyerbeware – if you wantto checkout the credentials of yourSEO company,make surethey’re not telling you all the nonsenseabove and theytell you the truth – SEO is easy, but it'slong-termand thereare no short cuts.
